Our online JHSC training course for Alberta offers a comprehensive introduction to Health and Safety Committee (HSC) and Health and Safety Representative (HSR) roles and responsibilities. Taking this course contributes to the required hours of training for HSC members and HSRs. This 6-hour course is self-paced and can be completed in multiple sessions if necessary.

COURSE TOPICS In this course, participants will learn: The roles and responsibilities of various work site parties and their OHS obligations. The rights of workers. The expectations and duties of an HSC or HSR, including: The receipt, consideration, and disposition of worker concerns respecting health and safety, Participation in the employer’s hazard assessment, Review of the employer’s work site inspection documentation, and The making of recommendations to the employer respecting health and safety. The key roles and responsibilities that an employer must understand and meet related to the HSC or HSR, including: How to establish an HSC or HSR, and How to support an HSC or HSR. The terminology of committee meetings. The criteria for effective committee meetings. The traits of effective HSC or HSR delegates. Participants will also receive a Participant Guide, including enhanced detail on each of these topics, and templates and examples of Meeting Agendas, Meetings Minutes, and the Terms of Reference document. Participants will complete a final exam at the end of the course. This course is designed to take approximately 3 hours to complete. The course is self-paced and can be stopped and restarted as needed. Testing included in this online course is intended to reinforce the learning objectives and fulfill the requirements of the mandatory training for all HSC members and HSRs.
